Rose at Sunrise
A beautiful pink rose - 'Cécile Brünner' - captured in full flower soon after sunrise, glowing in the early morning light. The air was fresh, light and so fragrant; it was heavenly and a delight to be up that early!

Poppy – Papaver commutatum ‘Ladybird’
Sauntering round the garden, camera in hand, all the poppies were glowing but this one caught my eye in particular; a perfect red poppy iridescent in the morning sun.

Touch Down
A lovely painted lady butterfly just alighted on Verbena bonariensis for a sip of nectar. Butterflies love this verbena and at times can dance around it in clouds!

Old Groyne
Taken whilst walking at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve this is a lovely image; old wooden groynes stretching across banks of shingle dotted with the hummocks of sea kale, Crambe cordifolia, and the faint outline of the wind turbines on Romney Marsh in the distance.

Hops In Traditional Oast
An evocative image! Having been dried these hops are cooling and waiting for pressing into "hop pockets" using traditional methods in one of the last working Oasts in Sussex.

Early Morning In The High Garden, Great Dixter
On a magical midsummer's morning; perfectly still and clear with the fresh scent of flowers and foliage in the air, quiet but for birdsong, gossamer traces of dew on fennels and alliums and with the warmth of the early morning sun on my face, it was truly entrancing to be in the High Garden at Great Dixter.

The glorious sight of poppies in their pomp! This shot was taken at Great Dixter when the poppies were freshly opened, still crinkly and pristine, backlit by the early morning sun.

Spring Jewels
Crocus, one of the earliest signs of spring. When the sun shines they are so open and giving; their delicate petals glowing and contrasting with beautiful orange stamens; attracting bees from all directions! I planted these beauties in my mother's garden several (ahem!) years ago and they have been bulking up and spreading out through the lawn sward ever since.

I first saw these poppies from a distance, glowing on Winchelsea Levels. I set my alarm for stupid o'clock the following morning and was greeted by this glorious dawn display of delicate ephemeral beauty!

Traditional Orchard In Spring
What is more quintessentially English than an old apple orchard in flower?! Captured early in the morning, with dew sparkling on the moss-covered tree trunks and on the rich tapestry of greens, this really is a beautiful image.

Love In A Mist
This delicate Nigella damascena image was captured on a mid-summer's morning, slightly misty with a hint of the scorching day to come! Such a lovely flower which, when established, spreads and pops up all over the place, as an annual is wont to do. Apart from the lovely 'love-in-a-mist' title Nigella has several other names - such as 'bird's nest' and 'Persian violets'!

322: Sussex Finest
These Sussex cows are the most gorgeous chestnut colour and '322' was almost glowing on an early summer's morning. With a friendly, inquisitive and gentle nature (they always like to say hello!) I do love to see them in the fields.

Monarch Of The Dales
This fine figure of a Northumbrian sheep standing noble and alone is very striking against a dramatic skyline. Clouds racing across the sky and the grasses billowing in the winds, yet with all the movement inherent in this picture, there is also a quiet stillness, a feeling of calm.

Captured early one summer's morning these foxgloves shimmered with dew and the dawn light. A piece of coppiced woodland cleared the year before had liberated copious foxglove seeds to produce a truly memorable sight!

King Arthur’s Well, Northumberland
During a wonderful family holiday in Northumberland we walked much of Hadrian's Wall. This windswept group of trees captivated me; nestled among the hummocks and hollows and somewhere near to them, at least according to the map, is King Arthur's Well!
